What’s Brown Marmorated Stink Bug?
Halyomorphahalys has been found in Asia, especially Japan, China, and Korea. Then, this stink bug was found for the first time in the United States in 1998. This kind of stink bug has mouthparts for piercing-sucking, two straight and light brown bands antennae, and two dark bands of wings.
For the mature bug, it has the length of 12 to 17 mm. Meanwhile, the immature bug called nymph has yellow and red eyes. For the reproduction cycle, female stink bugs usually lay around 20 to 30 eggs in summer. Then, the eggs will hatch for four to five days and become nymphs.
The brown marmorated stink bug will pierce the skin of fruit as their food. They will suck into apples, peaches, blackberries, tomatoes, corn, soybeans, green peppers, lima beans, and other vegetables and fruits.
They will leave directly after they feed. The fruit will continue to grow, but it develops scar which resembles a face of the cat. On the other hand, stink bugs also will come into your home. They will come in late summer to gather around in a house for seeking a place when winter time.
