The first time you see a brown recluse, some of you probably will get panic or scared. Even this one has a small body; some people may get scared of brown recluse bites. The general brown recluse spiders have a body which looks like violin pattern. This pattern can be seen on its back of cephalothorax, its head, and its neck. Brown recluse actually has no hair like the common spiders. They have yellowish and dark brown body color. The legs commonly around 1-inch length and those get the darker color. For its eyes, brown recluse has six eyes, but it is too small to be seen with human eyes.

Some of us may wonder where do brown recluse spiders live. Brown recluse prefers to live in dark and warm areas such as barns, basements, old tires, closets, laundry room, woodpiles, and others. As you found this species in your home, you need to worry about their infestation.

Brown recluse bites human as they get threatened. More than 20,000 species of spiders, there are only 60 species which are able to bite humans. Brown recluse bite may give several symptoms or even death. In Southeastern and Midwestern states, this species ever killed seven-years-old children.

Talking about the brown recluse bite, this species is very poisonous, and even its poison is more dangerous than the rattlesnake. This small creature owns venom which can cause some diseases; even it is very toxic to tissues and cells in human body.

The venom of the brown recluse has enzymes where once it released to our skins; it can destruct our cell membranes. For that reason, it does not surprise the venom can cause death, coma, acute renal failure, and other serious problem to human. However, some people sometimes only get non-serious brown recluse bite symptoms such as vomiting, fever, pain, itching, nausea, or allergy reactions.

How to Treat Brown Recluse Bites

Once you get bitten by the brown recluse, it may give you severe pain or burning feels just like the bee sting. After that, the bites symptoms commonly will grow around 2-8 hours later, creating the fever, itching, allergy, vomiting, or nausea. As you get bitten, just don’t make yourself panic. You need to get calm first as you do brown recluse bite treatment.

While on your way to the doctor, you can get first aid by yourself. First, wash the area with mild soap and water. Then, apply an ice cube covered with cloth on the bitten area. Ice can help you to decrease swelling and pain. Otherwise, you can use Tylenol for relieving the pain. As you get first aid treatment, make sure you do not apply heat, steroid creams, tourniquet, or electricity to the bitten area. Those things can make your pain become worse and destruct the tissues in your body.

The symptoms of the bites may be varying for some people. However, you still need to see the doctor even you only get a small bite. If it possible, do not forget to bring the spiders, so the doctor can be easier to give the correct diagnosis.

If the bite is dangerous, the doctor will provide you with some treatments such as pain medication, antibiotics, tetanus immunization, or antihistamines. Several doctors may suggest a therapist include avlosulfon or steroids for the patient with systemic diseases like kidney failure, anemia, or blood clotting. The patient with these severe diseases also needs to have the regular medical check-up.

Besides doing first aid treatments and seeing the doctor, there are still other ways to avoid the spider bites. The most important thing is by reducing the number of brown recluse in your areas. You need do the regular cleaning in your home, especially in a garage, storage room, basements, attics, and other dark rooms. Placing tight-fighting windows and door also will help you prevent brown recluse entering the home. Moreover, you also need to move building materials and firewood away from your house.
