Sand Fleas Lifecycle, Habitat And Diets. The science name of these flies is Phlebotomus. In the third world country, they are known as Tse-Tse fly that spread diseases to human. The flies are well known for the disease they spread, like sleep paralysis, the biological one.
Sand Fleas Lifecycle and Diets
Their lifecycle to have full metamorphosis come in four phases. The first one the mother laid eggs, then after 50 to 60 hours, the eggs hatches and become a maggot for until two days. After that, they make a cocoon and being one for at least two days. Lastly, they become an adult fly, with a lifespan up to three or four months.
But unlike any other flies, when they already have eggs inside of them, they don’t exactly lay it somewhere, they keep it inside their body until it hatches to become a larva. Then the larva, or a maggot it is, does not eat any rotten decays, like other flies. They have their nutrition from being inside their moms and drink milky nutrient from the mom. It almost as if they are a mammal, but they are not.
On the first sight, this kind of fleas is no different than any other flies. It got two big eyes on its small head, while on top of the furry body it has some transparent wings. But they have a longer snout that can bite of humans for its blood. Yes, just like the mosquito, these flies eat types of blood from mammals, like cows, horses, and even humans.
Habitat of Sand Fleas
The Flies are common in the continent of Africa, especially in the Center and North Africa. The Phlebotomus is a family of Psychodidae, with three major classifications based on where they live, Morsitans, Fusca, and Palpalis. The Morsitans lives in the middle of the vast field, the Fusca in the woods, and the Palpalis by the river. The name sand, based on the Morsitans one, they like dry area, like the sandy desert of Sahara and Kalahari.
Sand Fleas On Human
Their famous disease spread, are the Sleep Paralysis or Trypanosomiasis. It is a disease that attacks the human’s neuron by the Trypanosoma microbes. The name comes from when the victim is already getting the more advanced phase of the diseases. That the victim being verily weak and drowsy, and easily sleepy until they passed out. Every year there are about 300 thousand reports of people getting the diseases.
The methods on how it spread are almost the same as malaria. The microbes live by blood, and so when the flies feast on a human carrier with these microbes. The flies are most likely to spread it on other healthy human by biting it too. The exact thing how the flies deliver the diseases is by eight steps.
First, the fly that has Sleep Paralysis microbes takes a blood meal by injecting its snout into the human skin. Then the microbes are adapting inside the new body by transforming their singular cell into multiplied cells inside the small intestines. Then they spread all over the body by habituating various tissues and weaken them.
By this time, many virus can come in easily out of their weaken antibody that is eaten by the microbes. Almost the last step, they then become dominating the body by transforming into promastigote, which shaped like an oval cell with tail attached to the body for it to swim.
To avoid these flies spreading more diseases, humans have already made several attempts to reduce their population. By having a fogging to a contaminated place, and make the place around it cleaner for the flies to hate. The human clothes are one of the places where the flies live, so it has to be cleaned thoroughly and iron it in high heat to kill it.
